3RD AMENDMENT CONSUMER UNITS

Old fuse-boards are inconvenient and unsafe; circuits are easily overloaded, if the wrong rated fuse wire is fitted, causing a fire hazard.  Since 2016, new regulations state that all new consumer units must be fire resistant and circuits protected by RCDs.  The new consumer unit is designed for convenience and safety, incorporating Modular Circuit Breakers "MCBs" for overload and short circuit protection and Residual-Current Device "RCDs" for earth leakage protection and allows the home owner to reset the circuit, at the push of a button

Make sure your home is a safe place by having a new dual RCD consumer unit fitted.  We can supply and fit an up-to-date safer model, from £250 including parts, labour, a full test of all your circuits and a certificate

FREE VISUAL INSPECTION REPORT ("VIR")

A basic check to identify any visible signs of defects, damage or deterioration. No circuit testing undertaken, so electricity will likely remain on during inspection. We will need access to all rooms in your home. The report typically takes around one hour to complete, depending on the size of property. We make notes and a VIR will be issued upon completion. The VIR records a number of observations and recommendations and provides an overall summary of the condition of the installation. Below is a check list of the things you can expect to be looked at during a visual inspection:

  • Consumer Unit (main fuse board)

  • Sockets

  • Plugs

  • Light fittings

  • Light switches

  • Electrical cables or leads

  • Earthing and bonding

  • Extension leads

  • Kitchen safety

  • Bathroom safety

  • Signs of wear and tear

  • Visible signs of burning/scorching

  • RCD protection around the home
